Segni su Pigmenti by Lea Ceramiche, one of the latest collections designed by Ferruccio Laviani for the most design-oriented company of Panariagroup, has been included in the 2024 ADI Design Index by the ADI Permanent Design Observatory, which each year selects the best products, processes, and services from every sector of the design industry. This is an important recognition for Segni su Pigmenti , officially putting it in the running for the 29th edition of the Compasso D’Oro, Italy’s most prestigious award in the field of technological and industrial design, which will be held in June 2026.
Design constantly draws inspiration from a variety of disciplines: film, fashion, and art, to name a few. Part of the designer’s job is to reinterpret these very elements and characteristics in order to bring something new to life. The Segni su Pigmenti capsule collection does just that, blending the graphic style of 1960s figurative ceramics with the experimental spirit of conceptual art.
Ferruccio Laviani has added a decorative twist to the colours of the Pigmenti project, layering it with imperfect lines and stroke-like drops that give vibrant and textured depth to the surfaces. The collection is made up of 5 variations - Segno &, Segno +, Segno =, Segno #, and Goccio - which combine with the 12 Pigmenti nuances. The result is a palette of contemporary colours, inspired by natural and sophisticated hues: from earthy tones like ochre and terracotta, to cooler colours like green and blue, all the way to neutral shades and greys.
"Pigmenti, and especially Segni su Pigmenti,” states Ferruccio Laviani “represents what I have always loved to achieve with industrial products: exploring a new expressive language by introducing an artisanal gesture into a serial process. With Segni, I wanted to offer, through simple, irregular strokes, a fresh interpretation of material—more graphic and less focused on color or texture. By working on the surface as though tattooing skin, creating an ornament, I introduced a sense of depth using only the contrast of light and shadow."
Beyond its striking aesthetic, Segni su Pigmenti boasts impressive technical characteristics. A second ceramic skin measuring just 3.5 mm, the collection is versatile and durable, offering new possibilities to the worlds of architecture and interior design. It also features Slimtech technology, which revolutionises the traditional manufacturing process, resulting in a solution that requires less raw materials, water, and energy, to be produced.
“We’re incredibly proud that Segni su Pigmenti has been selected for the 2024 ADI Design Index. This recognition is a significant testament to our dedication and hard work. Our valuable and stimulating long-term collaboration with Ferruccio Laviani, as well as our constant pursuit of innovation, has allowed us, as a brand, to create unique collections that combine exceptional technical performance with an extremely modern aesthetic. Segni su Pigmenti embodies all of these elements that have always defined Lea Ceramiche’s work,” says Andrea Anghinetti, Brand Manager of Lea Ceramiche.
Every year, ADI (Association for Industrial Design) selects a range of products that stand out for their originality, innovation, manufacturing processes, formal synthesis, and materials used. Being included in this esteemed showcase of the best of Italian design is an indication that we’ve created a distinctive collection, fruit of Lea Ceramiche’s unwavering commitment to research and innovation, conducted with dedication, commitment, and foresight.
